Dusk was falling, and falling fast. Already the blue-black of night was creeping up from the few visible edges of the horizon, and a few early stars were winking far above amid the deep crimson heavens. Far below, two pairs of eyes glinted at one another from across a bush-ringed clearing.
The owner of the blue-violet eyes emerged first, slinking out into the open like a wary cat, her white fur an obvious target in her black-and-red-tinted surroundings. She was a slender Absol, her rippling muscles and viciously pointed blade the only signs of her great power. Power enough to make her leader of this place, this Clan. Nightclan.
The red eyes remained where they were until Severn had reached the center of the clearing, taking her rightful place atop a large gray rock coated in clawmarks. Then Hwasong padded out of the bushes that hid him, his black-and-gray pelt marking him as a creature of shadows as well. The large, muscular Mightyena halted a few body-lengths from Severn, taking in her blank expression and battle-ready stance. What had happened to her in these past few moons to transform her into this cold fighter? Where was the spirited, determined Pokemon he'd fought time and time again?
"What do want of me, Metal Star?" Her voice was sharp and frigid as the icy mountaintops her kind called home. The fire was gone from her, utterly and completely.
"What makes you think I want anything at all, Bladerunner?" Hwasong countered naturally. His voice had laughter in it, but also pride.
"The simple fact that you're here, Sirius," Severn replied, a small smile touching her lips. It didn't reach her eyes, which mirrored the darkening sky almost perfectly.
"Well, Severn, I'm insulted," Hwasong retorted with a touch of false sorrow. "I was beginning to think you knew me better. But as I'm here, you may as well tell me something." He paused, seeking permission with a slight tilt of his head.
Severn waited, never changing position or resonding to Hwasong's gesture. She knew he wasn't really asking, he would do what he wanted in his own time and his own way. At last she blinked, the only outward sign of her impatience. "Well? Get on with it. The others will be coming soon. if you seek to join us, by all means, stay."
That was news to him. Others? Of course, she meant Nightclan. They must be meeting here tonight, under the faint glow of the new moon. "I'm just passing through, Severn," he barked softly. "But I'll stay. This is what i have to ask you: Where did your fire go, little Ice Dog?" His red eyes blazed with flames for a heartbeat, then Hwasong loped off to find an apprpriate seat.
Severn's eyes flared in response, but she turned her head away, as if that could hide her from both Hwasong's fiery stare and his unsettling question. She didn't want to answer it, and he needn't have asked it. But it was his way, and no one could stop Hwasong from forging his own path.
And even as she thought this, the first rustlings reached her ears, coming ever closer.

((umbie use "quotation marks"!!!))
moonbeam sat alone, her eyes flitting through the other members of nightclan. being a healer, she had a stronger connection with the pokemon who walk the stars ((warriors starclan)) and looked at thier shining eyes. oh, raindance, will nightclan survive this plauge for power? she thought, looking at the stars, thinking about the past nightclan leader. she felt a brush on her side and smelled his watery, vaporeon scent and felt conforted.
((hwasong is a loner, right? i posted him as deputy, but i changed that...))

((sorry, umbie, i'm editing " " into your posts))
"don't tell them what to do!" nightstar barked, his rings glowing a fuming red. he was already angry for hwasong appearing and talking to severn as an equal. she's ten times the pokemon he will ever be! he weighted the option of scaring him off and almost smiled, imagining him yelping off with fear in his eyes. then he thought of severn. she probably wants him to stay, he thought angrily. he loped off and sat in his normal seat next to severn.
moonbeam studied nightstar closely. he has all this anger washing off him all the time she thought sadly. i dont know what i can do to help him. he yelled at umbie, too. whats bugging him? she looked at him with her wise, purple eyes. there's no way, no, he can't like severn, its impossible... though it would explain his blind fury to all nightclan males. she thought miserably, knowing all the herbs in the world couldn't cure his broken heart... or severns broken spirit.

((warriors geeks!!!!!!! lol)) ((i dont mind im just to lazy)) "nightstar get real! we're all half starved! our leadership is totally out of comission, we're wandering the middle of nowhere, and our healer is off in lala land. i'm scared for our clan, we need to hold a council to re-elect our leadership and chart a path to a place where we can live, or we're doomed."

"you stop it! you know nothing of our noble code, and you just joined the clan! you cant even tell moonbeam is talking to the pokemon who walk the stars! you are only a new member! never say a word like that to severn or this clan again or i'll rip your pelt off!!!"
moonbeam glared at umbie, shocked. he just insulted the leader, deputy, and healer, all in the same sentence! has he no respect for the clan or our ways? she looked at nightstar. his rings were glowing red, a shure sign he was angry. and he'll carry out that promise, she thought miserably. umbie will be sorry he ever met nightclan... moonbeam spoke up for the first time, her voice filled with wisdom beyond her age. "umbie, you need to learn the ways of the clan before you can become a true member. you need to learn the ways of the pokemon who walk the stars, and the ways of clan life." she nodded to nightstar. "i think you would be the best to show him this."
"i'm not teaching that mangy furball the ways of the clan!" he muttered to himself, not daring to disrepect the healer.
moonbeam looked at umbie. "you must learn to respect your elders, especially the leader and deputy." she nodded for nightstar to speak.
"i was about to get together a hunting patrol." he nodded to severn. "can you come?"

((guys, we're having a little clan meeting thingy. calmy downy.))
Severn showed no outward sign of anger, but inside, her heart smoldered with rage. It was the only sort of fire she possessed anymore, and it wasn't what Hwasong spoke of. Hwasong... She could not keep her thoughts from him. Not only his spirit and his questions, but his fur rustling in the wind and the pride in his eyes as he surveyed his surroundings with a twice-earned betterness. She could make neither head nor tail of it. Her heart knew nothing of love, only ferocity and wandering.
And then there was Nightstar. He was fiery, full of courage, but also too quick to lash out, too protective. She only hoped he could quiet his blaze to a focus that would better NightClan. He was a great deputy, but he would not make a good leader in his current frame of mind. He felt the need to defend her...Why? Surely it was obvious that she could protect herself much more effectively than he could, knowing her own weaknesses and fallthroughs? Perhaps he was merely trying to live up to his own expectations.
It got to be too much. "Silence!!" Severn roared, the gem on her eyes bursting into light for a brief second. "We are here to discuss NightClan, and discuss it we will, but first we shall have order!!" She glared at every Pokemon under her rule until all of them had settled, then continued in a calmer voice. "Now, we shall take turns like good little Pokemon, and share our thoughts, feelings, worries, and good ideas with each other. First, let me welcome a probable new member, Hwasong the Mightyena. He is a very famous Clanless fighter, so please treat him as you would any deputy of high repute. And no, Nightstar, he is not replacing you. And would you please stop defending me? Hwasong is a friend by my definition, as are you, so there is no need for defensive interventions. Moonbeam, would you like to go next?" Severn turned to her new friend and healer, a smile softening her icey features.

moonbeam looked calmly at severn. "its been slightly hard to find herbs this leaf-fall, but that's expected. luckily there's been no cases or whitecough or greencough yet." she paused for a moment. "the pokemon who walk the stars have been strangely quiet..." she took a breath and lowered her voice for only severn to hear. "you don't suppose its something we've done?" fear glittered in her wise purple eyes

Severn's heart went out to her friend. "No, it's not. I promise that- I swear that to you, Moonbeam. NightClan has done nothing to shame us in front of the Ancestors. And if we have, I shall rectify it or die trying." Emotion crept into the Absol's voice without her meaning it to, growing stronger with every word. "This is my Clan, my responsibility, and if the Ancestors have spited us because of something one of you has done, it will be my sacrifice to make!" The leader threw back her head to the heavens, eyes flashing fury, before resuming a normal position and barking to Nightstar, "Would you like to go next?"
So... She did have some fire left in her after all, Hwasong thought as he sat near the back of the crowd, watching Severn's display of emotion. She seems so at home here, on top of that rock, spitting in the eye of the stars to protect her subjects, even if they really are at fault. Perhaps I was wrong about her. Perhaps I really do deserve this scar on my soul.
No. He must not think of that. Nothing had ever come of it, and it was long past. Severn, at least, seemed to have forgiven him his deed, but he could never forgive himself. The Mightyena absently ran a claw down the length of a long, twisted red scar that ran from his left foreleg all the way to his right flank, passing over his back. Severn had given it to him many, many moons ago, and he felt he deserved it with a capital D, and every other one too.
Hwasong snarled at himself in anger. I am forgetting my wits. I swore never to remember what I did to her. Never! Desperate to distract himself, he focused his full attention of the Absol's words. They awakened something in him, a memory of his childhood, when his best friend had sacrificed himself so as to allow Hwasong to escape. Taking a few hesitant steps forward, so he stood beside a friendly-looking Pikachu, the Mightyena barked awkwardly, "Did I hear you correctly, Bladesinger? Did-did you just say that there are Pokemon who live in the stars, that watch over us? Dead Pokemon? Is that r-really true?" No amount of pride could stop the tears coming to his eyes at the thought, the hope, the wish for such a thing to be true. Maybe- just maybe- Loste was really with him, had been with him all this time, all these years. The idea was so great, so wondrous, that it drove all thought of scars and self-hatred from Hwasong's mind, as he stared up at his longtime rival with hope and newfound respect.
((You think what severn did to hwasong is cruel and unusual punishment, correct? well, your wrong. you will eventually find out what happened betwen them. spontaneous idea attack.))
